Ballina Scope’s Christmas Dinner at the end of 2020 was a great night held at the Ballina Beach Resort. Finally the Covid restrictions allowed a good sized gathering and we met to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to install the new executive for the 2020-2021 year. The elections had taken place by Zoom in August but there was just no way of getting together to install. Zone President, Cheryl M, who is also a member of Ballina Scope, executed the installation between the main course and the dessert. Here is an excerpt from the proceedings:
“Good evening members and guests and an early Merry Christmas to everyone. Having a gathering such as this one was something we couldn’t have done only a few months ago and this year has been such a challenging year for everyone. So it is with great joy and hope that we approach the Christmas season and the New Year for 2021.
Members of the Scope Club of Ballina have had to make changes to the way we have met this year. Many of us have conquered meeting by Zoom and thankfully many members were willing to adapt to the technology in an effort to keep the club functioning and moving forward. We have met together in smaller groups than normal for morning tea and to sustain friendships with our fellow Scopies. And despite the prevailing circumstances our friendship links and our service to the community has continued where possible.
As you can see we have some new members who have raised their hands to provide service and they are guided by members who have been in the club for many years. The generosity of these women is what keeps our club going. This is a great way to sustain the club and encourage new members to be engaged. At the AGM in August next year we encourage more members to step into these roles in order to learn more about the club and how it works. Ladies and gentlemen I am delighted to introduce you to the executive of the Scope Club of Ballina for the year 2020-2021. We all wish them well for a successful year of service and friendship.”
