On Thursday 20th February our club visited the Cairns Womens Centre where Nicole the Team Leader and the staff made us most welcomed. Last year Nicole was a guest speaker at one of our meetings. At the meeting the club decided to make bags for the children who unfortunately find themselves in a domestic violence situation. We presented 20 bags and they really amazed with what they contained. Torches, books, toy, toothbrushes and other fun items.
Over morning tea we spoke about what we did at Scope as none of staff had heard of Scope. We spoke of the many thousands of dollars we have donated to local groups over the last 43 years.
We were shown around the centre which takes no appointments it is all drop in place for women who are experiencing domestic violence or sometimes just need to talk to someone about it. Some days are very busy lucky for us it was quite.
Each women is assigned a case worker works with them finding accommodation, making sure the children are attending school and any other areas where she may need help. Computers are also available for their use.
